Brazilian Bee: Oil-collecting Bee

Oil-collecting solitary bees are widely distributed in the Americas, from southern United States to the Chilean-Argentinean Patagonia. Centris is one of genus with the highest species richness. Currently it contains more than 250 species described grouped in 13 subgenera, most of them distributed in South America. The actual number of species that occur in the Neotropical Region is unknown.

These photographic records were taken in restinga vegetation and in the garden of a house, located close to the sea, in the municipality of Vila Velha, Espírito Santo, Brazil.
