Brazilian Bee: Long-horned Bee

Melissodes is a genus of long-horned bees in the family Apidae with 129 described species. Long-horned Bees are medium-large bees that can be abundant in some context. Females have very long scopal hairs on their hind tibia and males have absurdly long antenna (hence the common name).

This nocturnal agglomeration of males is recurrent and occurs at the home of biologist André Costa Matos, specifically in a fern that has been in his family for generations.
